Canada offers some of the best hiking trails around the world, but it's often challenging to find time to get out in nature when you’re always busy at work. This month, we’re going to explore three hiking trails within Calgary that offer 5 kms or more of walking in nature. Each hiking spot will provide the trail name, distance, location, map of the starting point, and key features. Even if you live downtown, a good hike is closer than you think! Length: Up to 10 kmLocation: Northwest CalgaryMap: Nose Hill Park One of the largest urban parks in Canada at just over 11 km2, this park sits on top of Nose Hill and offers expansive trails with stunning views of the city and the Rocky Mountains. With its rolling hills, people describe walking through this park like walking through a prairie.  If you’re a runner, you’ll enjoy the challenge of running up and down different elevation changes throughout the park. There is also a designated off leash area for dogs, and the park is well-maintained and very clean. Length: 6 kmLocation: Northwest CalgaryMap: Bowmont Park If you’re looking for a hilly walk with stunning views, you’ll enjoy Bowmont Park where you’ll find great trails and a gorgeous view of the river. Whether you’re a cyclist looking for an easy trail to ride, or you’re a dog owner who wants to unleash your dog, this park has it all. There are great views of the mountains, and you’ll even catch the occasional person fly fishing in the river. In the winter months, you’ll spot people bird watching and enjoying the beauty of the trails. Length: 8 kmLocation: Southwest CalgaryMap: Weaselhead Flats Natural Environment Park Located at the western edge of Glenmore Reservoir, this trail system offers a mix of wetlands, forests, and open spaces. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the view of the lake overlooking the Rocky Mountains. At close to 600 acres, this park offers a variety of trails that take you through the beauty of nature in Calgary without having to leave the city. This is a top spot for families, hikers, and cyclists. Currie, located in Calgary's southwest, offers a mix of modern condos, townhomes, and single-family houses, making it ideal for a range of buyers. The community is known for its green spaces like Alexandria Park and the historic Officer’s Mess Garden. There are playgrounds for kids and walking paths for those who enjoy the outdoors. Currie is also close to Mount Royal University, several top-rated schools, and major roadways, making commutes easy. With nearby restaurants, cafes, and boutique shops, everything you need is within reach. It’s a neighbourhood that’s growing while keeping its historic charm intact. Calgary's education system is a cornerstone of the city's commitment to nurturing young minds. As parents and homebuyers, understanding the link between top-ranked schools and property values is crucial in making informed real estate decisions. The Calgary Board of Education and Calgary Catholic School District oversee a diverse array of elementary schools, each contributing to the city's reputation for educational excellence. Recent initiatives, such as increased funding for STEM programs and enhanced language learning opportunities, have further bolstered Calgary's standing in the education sector. While our infographic highlights Calgary's top 20 elementary schools, it's important to note how these educational gems influence the real estate landscape. Properties within the catchment areas of highly-rated schools often command a premium.  What sets these top schools apart? Factors include innovative teaching methods, state-of-the-art facilities, and strong community involvement. Many offer specialized programs like French immersion or fine arts focus, catering to diverse student interests and learning styles. For homebuyers with school-age children, here are some tips: 1. Research school ratings on the Fraser Institute website2. Visit schools personally to get a feel for the environment3. Talk to local parents about their experiences4. Consider future development plans in the area that might affect school boundaries Looking ahead, Calgary's education system continues to evolve. Plans for new schools in growing communities and increased integration of technology in classrooms signal a bright future. These developments not only enhance learning opportunities but also contribute to the long-term value of nearby properties. In Calgary, a great education and a sound real estate investment often go hand in hand. Whether you're buying, selling, or simply curious about your neighborhood's educational landscape, understanding this connection is key to making informed decisions in our dynamic city.   Parkland is a welcoming neighbourhood characterized by its diverse housing options, including spacious single-family homes and contemporary condos. The area is celebrated for its lush parks, including the expansive Fish Creek Provincial Park, which offers recreational activities and scenic trails. Parkland's strong community spirit is evident through local events and active neighbourhood  associations.  Residents enjoy easy access to quality schools, shopping amenities, and efficient public transit, blending a serene residential environment with urban convenience, making it a popular choice for families and professionals alike.
